More land has been acquired for a proposed mixed-use project on the banks of Waller Creek in downtown Austin that could allow for up to 2 million square feet of development.

The developers told the American-Statesman that they have acquired a 1.39-acre site at the southeast corner of East Cesar Chavez and Red River Streets, across from the Fairmont Hotel construction site. New York-based MG Properties, the real estate arm of McCourt Global, and The Sutton Co., based in Austin, said the purchase gives them the ability to develop their proposed Waller Creek project with potentially as much as 2 million square feet of office, apartment, condominium, hotel rand retail space.
