The Hemisfair Park Area Redevelopment Corp. plans to go before the City Council later this month so it can begin soliciting for a contractor to build out the first phase of Civic Park, a project years in the making.

That initial phase will encompass five of the nine acres set aside for the anchor park on the northwest corner of the Hemisfair site. That work is projected to cost approximately $27 million to complete...

HPARC officials were initially hopeful that work would commence in 2018, but they wanted to wait for more clarity on a planned public-private project on adjacent real estate initially expected to include a mix of hotel, retail and office space.

Zachry Hospitality has yet to break ground on that project, which has been delayed in part by the fiscal uncertainties spawned by Covid-19.
