During a December dinner at the Scenic Loop Café, UTSA athletic director Lynn Hickey formally asked local restaurateur Jim Bodenstedt to make the largest athletic gift in school history.
The price tag? A cool $1 million.
Much to Hickey's relief, Bodenstedt not only didn't flinch, he said he and his wife Catherine would review the proposal.
A few weeks later, during a Christmas party at the home of UTSA president Ricardo Romo, Hickey got her answer.
