Quebec will not financially support Montreal's candidacy

"According to a government source close to the matter who did not have the authorization to speak about it publicly, Quebec notified the mayoress of Montreal, Valérie Plante, of its decision. The Legault government justified its choice by affirming that the relaunch of major events, such as festivals, would occupy all of its attention after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The financial contribution that was expected from the provincial government represented 103.4 million, we learned. To this amount, which was higher than what had been estimated in 2018, could be added other costs between now and the submission of a final specifications in 2023."

Important to remember that the Alberta government has yet to commit a cent to #yeg's bid for World Cup 2026. The bid has got to this point without provincial gov't support, but it likely can't survive without it.
