I don't really think so. You could conceivably add three or four more teams from the other confederations and not really skip a beat. CONMEBOL, UEFA, CAF, and AFC all have competitive teams that fail to qualify for WC. CONCACAF is the only federation (aside from Oceania) which doesn't really have the depth to add teams without feeling the dilution. Eight is way too many for CONCACAF.
Example of teams that did not qualify for WC 2018:
UEFA: Holland, Italy, Czechia, Turkey
CONMEBOL: Chile, Paraguay, Ecuador
CAF: Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Algeria
AFC: Iraq, China, Uzbekistan
Panama, who qualified over the US, had the pleasure of losing to Belgium 0-3, England 1-6, and Tunisia 1-2 at WC 2018. Honduras scored a combined one goal in their six matches between the 2010 and 2014 World Cups.

Canada can play the US and other equally-competitive teams tight. By 2026 Canada shouldn't be that awful - we just need to develop some central defenders. Knowing Canada they'll get stuck in a group with like France and Argentina or something.
