Would have been the 4th tallest building in New York City at the time, surpassing the Chrysler Building, and would have been the 3rd tallest building in Lower Manhattan behind the World Trade Center.

(From ArchFwa.com)

Frank Williams conceived of the 60-story 1.5 million square foot office tower at the tip of Manhattan as "a metaphor of a lighthouse at the tip of the Island". This architectural design won the invited competition but the real-estate market has stalled the project from moving ahead. The rose granite and glass structure would have risen above a new Staten Island Ferry Terminal and renovated Battery Maritime Building. The Associated Architects are Fox & Fowle. The BMB will be recycled for cultural activities. The tower is topped with an all glass dome that will be illuminated at night. The dome provides public observation decks as well as public restaurants on three levels.

The architects designed a new limestone base for the Staten Island Ferry Terminal, and executed extensive copper restoration on the Battery Maritime Building. The enormous pedestrian activity at the base of the complex was reorganized. Generous public space to accommodate approximately 100,000 ferry and subway commuters that pass through the complex daily. A new waterfront esplanade, linking Battery Park to the Public Plaza has added two additional acres of park space. The new park adds a welcome amenity for the pedestrians in this new South Ferry Plaza complex as well as a gracious exterior arrivals space.

The South Ferry Plaza is one of my favorite never built projects, Its really hard to dislike this project. Its a real shame that it was never built. Dose anyone have any other info on this project?
