Hixon Properties Inc.'s proposed office project on Broadway Street will be the first mass timber frame office building in Texas, said John Beauchamp, the company's chief investment officer, who hopes it will be the catalyst for the growing River North neighborhood.

"The concept is for the district to be mixed-use," he said. "We want the Cavender properties to be the neighborhood center for River North. What that means to us is all the things you’d see in an urban neighborhood — restaurants, bars and entertainment. Within this building itself, the retail will follow that vision."
