Looking at the positives from SkyCity -- there was definite and seemingly legitimate interest in that type of concept in downtown Winnipeg. The other huge positive is Winnipeg managed to keep them from needlessly demoing the St Regis and didn't get left with a giant, abandoned hole in the ground.
