2x6s are cheap, and easy to install.
It reduces the floor to floor height which can introduce efficiencies in exterior finishes, constructability, construction time, etc.
These architects must have an in somewhere with the City though. It must have been a struggle to get the City to agree to this type of floor system for a
new build (it is common in a lot of the older warehouses).
