The Census Bureau finalized state population estimates for 2020 on December 22nd. Idaho's population was estimated to be 1,826,913 as of April 1, 2020.

Over the past year, Idaho's population surpassed that of West Virginia. Idaho is now the 38th most populous state. Last year, Idaho's population was estimated to be 1,789,060 vs. 1,795,263 for West Virginia. West Virginia's population actually decreased this year to 1,784,787.

The next state on the list is Nebraska, with 1,937,552 residents in 2020. Taking the current 2019-2020 growth rates for each state, Idaho could pass Nebraska in 2024. Then, in 2025, Idaho could hit a population of over 2,000,000.

Between 2010-2020, Idaho was the third fastest-growing state, at 16.5%. Only Texas (16.8%) and Utah (17.6%) grew faster.

Even with all of the growth, every article I have read projects that Idaho will not again another U.S. House of Representatives seat when reapportionment happens. We must be darn close though...
