The issue with that theory is that it doesn't explain why the 1940s and 50s would have an equally dramatic decrease in crime. Nor why crime would suddenly spike in the 1960s. Nor why the late 1800s saw an even more dramatic crime decrease. Those were not environmentally conscious eras, but they experienced the same crime spikes and collapses as we're seeing now.
