Very interesting discussion on CBC this morning about the replacement project for the Codiac RCMP headquarters.
The discussion revolved mostly about the cost (about $45M), and the size of the project, but at the end of the interview the two city councilors involved, were asked an interesting question about the location of the new building.
Johnna Brewer noted that one of the three selected proponents for the RCMP project was
Bird/Terra. She said she couldn't help but wonder whether there was any connection between this and Bird/Terra's last minute proposal for the MHS site.
Both councilors said they couldn't comment because of confidentiality (although I don't think they would have gotten in trouble simply for issuing a denial); but
then one of the councilors made an unsolicited (and unnecessary) comment that it was important that the new RCMP building be located somewhere where they would be able to respond quickly to calls originating in any area of the city. He didn't need to say this, and he wasn't directly asked this,
but this could have been an unsolicited and oblique reference to the MHS site, since it is located within spitting distance of the Botsford/Wheeler intersection, and there is no question that police cruisers could fan out much more quickly from the MHS site than they would from Assumption Blvd.........

this is the real reason why Bird/Terra has been so mum on their proposal for MHS - it's because they're trying to tie it in with the RFP for the new RCMP HQ and they really couldn't say anything.........
