The aquarium in Houston was basically built over the bones of the older Fire Station Number 1. I much preferred the fire station. The aquarium was developed by Tillman Fertitta, the owner of Landry's Corp, a restaurant company that began as a seafood restaurant on Galveston Bay between Houston and Galveston. Fertitta made headlines in the last few days when it was announced that staff at his très swanky Post Oak Hotel would not be given employee benefits during the coronavirus pandemic, then that decision was reversed and backtracked after the absolutely predictable backlash.
