I don't want to turn this thread into an auto-insurance debate, but according to MPIs list of the top stolen cars in Manitoba (from a few years ago), all of them are models later than 1990.

So, either the stock immobilizers car companies have been installing are junk, or you severely over-estimate the number of post 1990 cars that have built in immobilizers.
