New data released Friday indicates that the hospitality industry’s economic impact on the Alamo City reached $15.2 billion in 2017, a $1.6 billion increase from 2015.

Those figures are part of a new study produced by Trinity University professors Richard Butler and Mary Stefl. According to the new study, 37 million people visited San Antonio in 2017, an increase of 7.3 million visitors since 2015.

San Antonio’s escalated recruitment of more airlines and flights has contributed to the spike in visitation as improved air access has made the city a more appealing destination. Butler and Stefl say the new data proves that tourism remains a vibrant sector and continues to become a more critical part of the city’s economy.
