The Woodlands Development Co. plans to build a 22- to 26-story luxury condominium tower near The Woodlands Waterway.

The longtime Houston-area developer — a wholly owned subsidiary of Dallas-based The Howard Hughes Corp.(NYSE: HHC) — has been quietly working on its first residential high-rise in The Woodlands.

Jim Carman, Howard Hughes' director of building development, told the Houston Business Journal the condo tower will be between 22 and 26 stories, depending on unit sales. Floor plans have not been finalized, but each floor is expected to have up to four units with possible penthouses having fewer units. The tower will have approximately 90 units in total, and will have an upscale and contemporary design, Carman said.

The Woodlands Development Co. hopes to break ground on the project later this year, Carman said. The site is planned and permitted, and a groundbreaking date will be set pending unit sales. More details on the project, as well as renderings, are forthcoming in the coming months, Carman added.
