Shockingly dangerous is maybe overstating things, but Winnipeg is definitely an outlier by Canadian standards. During the daytime it's fine, but at night when the streets empty out of normal working people there can be an intimidating edge. I notice the same vibe to a slightly lesser extent in Regina, Saskatoon and Edmonton, but not really in other Canadian cities.

Anyway, re SHH's post, I admit it's been a long time since I've been to NL (20 years this spring, definitely due for another visit), but I don't remember the city looking quite so European. Some strong Euro vibes happening there.
