One thing about this observatory that looks incredible that not even the original did is the ability to look almost 'straight' down. In all the photos I have seen, from the 101st floor, one can look through the 100th floor and look almost straight down. Especially those views to the west. Looking down at the scope water from the Hudson and a lot more on the ground ahead from the 101st floor appears very intimidating.

The original allowed you to press your face against the glass and look straight down. I have clear memories of watching the taxis below like matchbox cars and the people like little ants.
