Another mysterious
tunnel in Los Angeles County is the obsolete
Jergins Subway in Long Beach. It was built in 1927 by Jergins Oil Trust Company as a pedestrian 'subway' under Ocean Boulevard. 180 feet long and 35 feet wide, it funneled thousands of people a day to The Pike amusement area. The tunnel has been closed off for 45 years. Its northern end was paved over to accommodate a new hotel. It's southern end is temporarily visible due to excavation for a new building.
