Well the Burj Kalifah (Dubai) at 818 meters (2,717 feet) beat the half mile benchmark for the first time in history. The next benchmark to beat will be the one kilometer (1000 meter, 3,281 feet) mark. I dont think this will happen in the immediate future but when somebody does get a chance to build a WTB that will dethrown the Burj I think they will shoot for 1,000+ meters. After someone suceeds at that then there will be serious talk about a one mile high skyscraper, hopefully in the year 2056 to build Frank Lloyd Wright's mile high "Illinois" on the 100th anniversary of its design.
