JACKSONVILLE | Riverfront Plaza | 486 FT | 44 FLOORS

A sole bid for a piece of property the city owns at the former site of the marketplace shopping/dining/entertainment venue Jacksonville Landing has pitched this Denmark-based Bjarke Ingels Group design across the street from the iconic Wells Fargo Center, or its legacy name of One Independent Drive.

Set to contain 333 apartments, 43rd-floor restaurant, and other features, this could be an iconic new high rise in Florida's often overlooked most populated city.

Not a fan of how this clashes with Wells Fargo Center. And I'm sure in Bjarke's strange mind that he thinks it's supposed to be a twin with that 'skirt' on the base. But like all too many of his designs, it's "look at me" at the expense of everything around it. My main gripe is how much it obstructs the iconic trapezoidal base of Wells Fargo in his attempt to emulate it.

Yeah, it feels like it's trying to be an homage to the Wells Fargo Center, but I think it interferes with it too much and just gets in the way of it.

Also, modern architecture has gotten boring. I'll be glad when we start to see a new style emerge.

This is not even the tallest project planned for Jacksonville. This is ...

Which I don't know how realistic that is. The proposed price for the tower alone makes no sense at under $200 million.

Are you talking about the first one or the second one ?

The one you posted.

In regards to Riverfront, I like the nod to one of the more iconic skyscrapers in Florida, but I also do not want the nod hiding a significant amount of the base.

Overall, it's a fantastic design and a style that isn't in Jacksonville on any large scale, so it'll certainly stand out.

If Jacksonville already doesn't have a better skyline than Toronto, surely this one will put it over the top.

They’re not messing around with this one. Seems that ‘lowly’ Jax will soon sport the most iconic skyscraper in Florida ...

Most Iconic is a little extreme given all the other projects proposed and built in Florida(IMO)!:D

The plaza's construction has begun construction a while back, but the tower is not currently being developed and it's status is unknown. Also, the JAX statue was swapped with a more interactive park. Right now, Mayor Deegan is currently asking for 20 million in funding, on top of 25 million from the city. This is all in-line with Jacksonville's park expansion, attempting to liven the downtown.

I almost weep for downtown Jax.
