I can't wait to see this one rise. It's very minimal, but my favorite going up in AS.

Thanks for the update. I had a meeting yesterday in the new tower next door but forgot my camera. I will shoot some views from up there of 271 and Atlantic after my next meeting sometime.

Wow, another fun addition to the ATL skyline. With this and the Atlantic going up at the same time, there are going to be some great shots for Joe to update us with in the future:yes:

Nice shot, DoteDote -- thanks! Given how close the rising crane tower is to the 271 building, I wonder if there is room for the typical fixed horizontal "hammerhead" boom, or if they'll use an elevating "jib" boom that can operate within a more confined radius. I noticed that the crowded St. Regis lot uses the latter type, which is used more frequently in crowded spaces like Manhattan and Chicago. I guess we'll shortly see...

Looks like they're using traditional cranes.

Sorry I don't have a pic, but you can see this in the above photo taken a couple of months ago...

The building is several floors above ground & all the floors (so far) are slanted, like a parking garage would be. This building is surrounded on all sides by one of the most expansive 3-level parking decks I've ever seen, and every other building in the development meets the ground with lobbies on their first floors. This one looks like it's all parking so far. WTF? I've seen the renderings, but I didn't think the parking extended above street level. Are the first few floors gonna be a museum or something? (not a serious question)

Here's a shot taken 2-24-08 showing the parking deck levels;

^That seems to contradict the rendering which appears to show a lobby at the intersection. :shrug:

gttx Mar 5, 2008 9:38 PM

There will be a lobby at street-level - it will just have a parking deck behind it. I'm not sure why, but they are putting in 4 additional levels (beyond the AS deck) above ground. They do have some good urban design, though, as the base won't look like a parking deck. It should have the lobby and some additional retail.

They put some new renderings on the construction fence the other day. I'll try and get a picture or two later today.

Got a couple floors above the parking level now. Rising pretty fast, I think. It's the one with the red cranes.
