SHANGHAI | Lujiazui Development Tower (plot B3-5) | 869 FT / 265 M | 55 FLOORS

The Development Tower is under construction in between the Merry Land Building and the Jasper Tower.

265 m hight (no spire) 55 floors. That's higher than the Shimao International Plaza (250m) so this building should be quite spectacular.

October 19th 2004, from the Oriental Pearl. Not a direct view on the plot but see the newly appeared yard houses with blue roofs.

Tuesday I'll arrive in Shanghai and rush to the Lujiazui Zone to see what's going on this plot.

November 11th 2004. Construction fever on this plot, definitively the most active yard I saw during my stay !

This beautiful building is somewhat reminiscent of 2IFC or the Goldman Sachs building in Jersey City.

Who designed it ?

coth Nov 24, 2004 1:46 PM

i like this building too

Chad Nov 24, 2004 4:58 PM

Damn!! Thats another Super TALL!!

Fabb Nov 24, 2004 7:29 PM

It looks like one because it enhances its verticality. But it does not really belong in the category.

some_stupid_nut Nov 24, 2004 7:31 PM

I cant decide if I like it or not. At first I liked it, but upon closer inspection I dont really like it.

vincent Nov 24, 2004 10:41 PM

i would say it looks like a building in Tokyo that is designed by Cesar pelli.

Fabb Nov 25, 2004 6:18 AM

I like the asymmetry of the design. I wonder what it looks like from other angles.

avcellvs Nov 25, 2004 7:03 AM

I was hoping to find the architect and developer names on the plot so I could search for better renderings but nothing was mentionned. Does somebody know ?

Fabb Nov 25, 2004 9:26 AM

Is there a mention of a completion date ?

avcellvs Nov 25, 2004 9:53 AM

No, no completion date, no final height, no number of floors details : nothing was mentionned at all. This building came as a surprise and it is still quite mysterious.

Fabb Nov 25, 2004 10:01 AM

Maybe someone could send an email to one of those architectural firms to find out who's responsible for the project.
Pelli would be a good bet.

It looks like a Pelli's tower but there is no confirmation of it on his site. I can't find anything about this building. May be in China ? I had liked to see others angles and better renderings.

It is quite strange that on this quite small plot a 265 meters high tower can be erected when you compare it to the SHKP project sparse ground occupancy. Old ratio VS new ratio ?

But it does look like it has a small footprint.
So, I'm not surprised.

Shanghai building get better and better. Now the problem is, the 1st generation skyscraper built in the 90's has become the eyesore of the skyline.
