Nice one Chris, almost looks like a canvas! Nema sure is a nice addition poking its head and shoulders up there.

That's the view everybody landing from the east on a widebody gets when landing on 28C. I love it.

I'd love to see more super talls near Sears. Just to balance things out.

With the resurgence of the SW Loop it may be a reality! in another 50 years or so lol

Here's hoping for a supertall at Thompson Center.

It amazes how imposing Sears and Hancock look from pretty much every conceivable angle. Vista stands out in a nice way as well.

I prefer having Sears Tower so visible in the skyline. That was the point when it was built and it remains the central feature of the skyline some 50 years later. Amazing. Now that I live in NYC, I am seeing classics like the Chrysler Building being swallowed up by its neighbors. It's hardly visible anymore. The most impressive thing about Sears Tower, besides the design, is that it is surrounded by 500-800 footers and yet they look like nothing. So many of the towers in the Loop would be the dominant tower if they were in all but a handful of cities in this country. And yet they just blend in. It's wonderful.

All that being said, I would enjoy seeing the parking garages torn in the Loop torn down and turned into 800 footers.

You got me, there! I am happy to see that many of the new office buildings are in the 500-800 ft range. I do wish Wolf Point South was another 200 feet, but I have grown to appreciate well-designed and build towers even if they do not meet some arbitrary cutoff of height. I'll take a good design over an extra 100 feet any day. All things being equal, though, the taller the better. For 2020, I hope we see Tribune Tower get moving and that 400 N LSD comes back with a single supertall of comparable quality design to the previous twin tower proposal.

I'll serve as the Debbie Downer here - unf Tribune isn't currently expected to get going to get going until 2022

If approved by the city, the mixed-use supertall could begin construction in 2022. Upon its completion, Tribune Tower East will claim the title of Chicago’s second tallest building—eclipsing both nearby Trump Tower and the under-construction Vista Tower. The project will rise just 30 feet shy of the Willis (formerly Sears) Tower.

The blow-thru reminds me of those characters on the Simpsons whose heads split into two when they talk... :)

You're thinking of any Canadian in South Park.

This building has its flaws, but it looks more or less stunning from most angles.

Barney Greengrass Dec 22, 2019 4:04 AM

I think when the construction elevators and cranes come down, it will look mighty cohesive. It's certainly unique, will be the type of presence which says "Chicago" from just a glance of an image.
