I thought gardens were going into those wind-break floors?
|
Apparently, the building's open areas will be lit on Monday for the first time.

It's lit now. It actually does look pretty cool on the skyline lit up.

Does anyone have pictures with the lighting now on?

Thanks! Looks great!

if size is all that counts..
This building sticks out of the skyline the way a gawky kid sticks out of his school picture after an abnormal growth spurt.
At a small scale, the simple rectilinear geometry would be elegant. At 1,396 feet, its mindnumbingly dull. The open structural floors give it an unfinished look. That said, from pictures, it looks like the building reads better up close than from farther away. (I haven't been over there since it it was done though so I don't know.) But from Central Park, or across the Hudson, its more than a bit regrettable. Its one of the few buildings I can see from the third floor of my apartment in Montclair, NJ about 12 miles away. At that distance, I'm just happy to see part of the skyline, other than that, what a bore. With some context (i.e. other towers with roughly comparable height), this building might not look as bad. Perhaps the coming supertalls on 57th will bring that context. |
