New York, New York company AAC Realty announces brand new Class A construction and more high-end shoppes coming to Rivercenter Mall!

The old five-floor Dillard's/Joske's building is planned to be the newest ballrooms of the Marriott Rivercenter Hotel. Each Floor will receive a junior to grand ballroom with 10 meeting rooms on each floor. The 5th floor of the building would be a grand ballroom. The Fashion Level of the mall would become Marriott Rivercenter Hotel's newest meeting space. Each of the stores would be transformed into a meeting room. (Similar to the meeting rooms at the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center). Mall patrons would not have access to this level. The only access to this level would be through Marriott Rivercenter Hotel's big glass window located on the third floor. Parking would be affected by the transformation of the property. Centeral Parking System's Commerce Street Garage is expected to now be a relief Parking Garage owned and operated by Towne Park Valet of the Marriott Rivercenter Hotel. Fogo De Chao's valet parking will be on "A" and "B" levels. Levels "C" and "D",would become hotel patron parking. Level "E" and "F" would become Marriott Rivercenter Hotel's employee parking.

Several new stores are planned to be opened. Plans are to make the mall resemble the "Miracle Mile Shops" at the Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV. Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana, Niemen Marcus, Nordstrom, the Apple Store, Gucci, and several other high-end fashion stores are planned to open as well. The mall is also expected to have a multi-million dollar state-of-the-art video, lighting, and audio show. Unconfirmed operation of this is expected to be the existing A/V Department of the Marriott Rivercenter Hotel. A historical view of the City of San Antonio will be shown. "The San Antonio Experience" will be the unofficial name of the show.

Renovation and construction is said to start July 2010 with a finishing date of Fall 2012.

This was the plan that Marriott had for the mall, if they owned it, which they don't, since they lost the lawsuit.

Piers Morgan, one of the judges from television's "America's Got Talent", recently made a remark about one of the performances on the show as like listening to a band play at a club in San Antonio. Do you think clubs in San Antonio are comparable to clubs in other cities or do you think that clubs are lame in San Antonio as Morgan insinuated? lol Antennas do not count. There's a building in Houston with a 285 foot antenna on the roof. The building is 714 feet tall to the roof. The top of the antenna is 999 feet above the ground. Incidentally, the building was the tallest in Texas when it was built in 1971. That is while not counting the antenna. It was also the first 700+ foot building in Texas. If antennas were counted, the Weston Centre would almost certainly be considered to be around 500 feet tall. I believe the tallest antennas up there are close to that elevation. That Wikipedia page makes no sense. It says that the highest roof height on The Austonian in Austin is only 622 feet, which is wrong, since the mechanical penthouse rises another 63 feet. I was personally up there myself earlier this year. Their page also claims the 683 foot height is with "antenna or spire". The building has no spire, and while I don't doubt it has at least one antenna, although small, it would no doubt be higher than 683 feet since it would have to stand on the roof. The point is, I wouldn't trust that list as a reliable source for building info.

sad san antonio looked better back then.

I like the design they chose. That other one looked futuristic for its time, but I don't know, I don't think it would have aged well. The design looked too bizarre. Even the Tower of the Americas isn't the most flashy observation tower around, I love it. It's really one of the most impressive structures in Texas, especially at night.

How? Those buildings are still a part of our DT and we have added on since then.

Downtown seemed more active back then.

This is cool. It's an elevation of the Tower of the Americas. You can see the heights of the different observation decks. It looks like they changed the design a bit though from this, because there's that loft on the bottom deck. It also shows that there was an outdoor deck planned for the roof which would have been 605 feet up. That height should still be accurate for the building's lower roof level. The 622 foot height, I guess, is including the mechanical penthouse which rises above it. Interesting. One thing about the Tower of the Americas, they sure did make public the structure's heights. I've found the dimensions of the tower from top to bottom. It's rare to see so much info released like that. Man, that rooftop view would have been sweet. I guess the reason they nixed it was they figured they would need room up there for antenna space.

Ha! I remember when SA's skyline didn't need to be stretched to be taller than Austin's. Both are nice shots, nevertheless.

He's talking about the stretched look. Something is definitely off about it. It's something about the resizing or something. Austin's looks squat in that one. The W is chopped in half in height. It's like it was added in there as a rendering, but only shown as half as tall as it actually appears. It's our 4th tallest building and should appear as the 2nd tallest in that image after The Austonian.
