A couple of pics that may be appreciated by those around here...

This is from a couple weeks ago. A point of view yet to be represented on here I believe.

^ Wow, those are fantastic!

Thanks. While having little else to redeem it - the view from this vantage point is spectacular.

It's funny that you posted these shots from Vantage, as Surreal, Regulator and I were discussing the view from there for photos last night at arriVa.

The two buildings do kind of bookend downtown from a photography perspective. There are a few more from this end on photo.mikewalker.ca. I suspect Nova has some good views as well.

It really is neat seeing all the different views of the city that are shown on this forum.

So after trying out a EF 70-300mm IS Canon lens at the Westjet BBQ yesterday I caved and bought one.

Can't wait to try out some zoomed in shots from my view!

I haven't yet, I should send him a message on Flickr. But if you notice I did choose to upgrade to the IS version. I figure why not if I am going to be using it a lot.

Random phot from a couple of weeks back. Just picture the new Calatrava bridge at this time of night from this angle.

Good luck with the new lens. Is it the F/2.8 version?

Bigtime Aug 14, 2009 8:54 PM

It is the f4-5.6 version with the image stabilization that had 2 modes, so it can keep one axis stable for panning shots with a moving subject like an aircraft.

I've got to grab a lens hood for it on my way home from Vistek and then I'll try some shots from the balcony.

Nooooo, not Vistek!!! The Camera Store is generally cheaper and has much more knowledgeable staff.

You should grab a UV filter as well, it's much easier to replace a scratched filter than an expensive lens... (You probably already know this...)

A quick example of cost comparisons between the two stores.
http://www.thecamerastore.com/produc...0-mm-f4-56-usm $798.21

http://www.vistek.ca/store/CameraLen...zoom-lens.aspx $839.95 on sale??!?

Bigtime Aug 14, 2009 9:19 PM

Don't worry, the Camera store price is what I paid for the lens. I'll stop by there instead of Vistek on my way home to grab the hood and the UV filter!

A couple more from the other night.
