Holy crap that thing is ugly. It looks like something a 5 year old would create with a bunch of cardboard boxes..
|
I like it. It's one of the more eyecatching additions to Manhattan. People are always looking up at it. It practically sold out overnight.
|
Are there any street level shots of it looking up from below? I'm curious if it's complexity is apparent from that angle.
|
Did they ever put the Bean on the bottom?
|
I love the shape/massing, some of the coolest ever. But the white rectangles in the glass just clutter the whole thing up.
|
O MY GOD this building is stunning, hypnotizing!

I'm indifferent...
The views on the other hand have to be stunning. |
i thought it would jenga more, but its very striking.
anyway, later this year at long last its going to be all about the bean. and that will definately happen -- the artist guy anish kapoor himself bought an apt in the bldg last december. you know he will want to walk in by his bean! https://ny.curbed.com/2016/12/7/1386...oor-56-leonard |
I KNEW this building reminded me of something. The 3rd level of Shadow of the Colossus.
https://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media...s8jqoczoit.jpg https://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media...s8jqoczoit.jpg This is a building that *almost* had it right. The top is what bugs me a bit. Something about it seems off. Should've come to a pinnacle of sorts. |
I think the proportions are all right. A pinnacle would distract from the overall design.

I find this mixture of large glass bays and raw concrete extremely daring to a luxury condo building like this and just appealing. This would be trendy among today's French-speaking architects, especially for the balconies they skillfully managed to it. In fact, I think these are more "terrasses", not exactly balconies. Not everyone can enjoy that outdoor feel in a private condo by these heights...
It's a fascinating building, signature of contemporary architecture with some remaining modern codes to it. |
the denouement of this building, which still hasn't played out as yet, was never going to be at a pinnacle, it was always to be at the base.
i guess we just have to be patient. https://www.e-architect.co.uk/images...8_chdem_10.jpg |
