^ Great idea for a thread. This area has changed so much over the past 10 years, but mostly with smaller, under the radar new builds and renovations that kind of get lost in the shuffle. Centralizing them here will provide us with a clear indication of the full scope of activity in the area.
For what it's worth I think the WB area holds a tremendous amount of potential... continued development and improvement will not only help to create a thriving urban neighbourhood, but it will yield positive spinoffs for downtown too. |
With the overlap between the Osborne Village area and the resurgence of this particular neighborhood, and it's unique urban identity, ie: Corydon Ave, Osborne Village, I believe it's time has finally come.
---------- I believe this particular proposal was already covered, 85-109 Maryland/Westminister. 4 Story, 44 residential Units, 44+- parking stalls, some covered, 5,6K sq. ft commercial at grade, 6 K sq. ft.of commercial space on 2nd floor. 3rd floor terrace over 2nd floor commercial space. Proposal Applicant: 710 Westminster Ltd. – Leon Reimer Architect on Record: Unit7 Architecture Looking for a render but it is currently in cue before CC for rezoning. EDIT: ^ I agree Esquire, the area holds a great deal of potential, it used to be quite the adventure in the early days, I really am enjoying it's renaissance so far. |

Today's Murray M column (beware WFP paywall) has a rundown of three projects along Maryland, including a rendering of the one slated for the SE corner of Maryland and Westminster:

Apparently Stella's is taking advantage of the recent fire at the Sherbrook location and is going to be reopening with an expansion.

Great news; let's hope for more of this. A redeveloped Sherbrook Inn would be nice.

I kind of hope that's not the case though as I really like that little passageway. |

Given that time frame - I think the "expansion" will just be gaining more efficiency in the existing interior space - rather than a structural addition. |

Yes this is the one I was looking for. This corner is somewhat of a gateway or hub leading to the area from the south and for residents in the Westminister area. + 12K sq. ft. of CRU's will be a god send to this area. Looks like a functional design as well. |

Perhaps that tiny white building at Maryland and Sara will be next for redevelopment.
|
That building is home to an architecture firm.
|
Really? It is nondescript, and looks vacant.
|
The housing project on Sherbrook is going up so fast, it's crazy. I'd love to see more of that on that street. I'd also love to see the gardens relocated somewhere else nearby... it's a prime lot and it also really just looks like a mess on a good day haha.
|
That is true. A streetscape consisting of old homes which have been converted to stores and restaurants, brick walk-up apartment blocks as well as modern infills are dynamic.
Echoing the call for the Sherbrook Inn to be redeveloped, I do know the owner has been approached by developers: it remains unclear to me if the asking price was too high, or he simply does not want to sell. In any event, I know the Tallest Poppy plans on opening a patio in the summer, as well as exterior improvements. |
I didn't know that the Legislature, Memorial Park and Vimy Ridge Park were considered to be park of West Broadway, did you?
