Wow. I didn't notice all these typos until now. Well, I was understood, nevertheless.

That area, my second favorite area downtown, is really going to be very beautiful (not that is isn't already) and active with pedestrian traffic in the next two years, may be 3.

Here is another one, Jack. I know you like pictures that give perspective of how it looks from a distance, so if there is any other types of pictures you would like to see, let me know.

Thanks, Fryguy! Much appreciated.

Any time photo you take and share is appreciated. Next time you're around the Pearl (or that direction general) a shot of Thompson would be good. Or from the Trinity/Alamo Stadium area.

The corner of the parking lot seems like a good spot.

Anyone know what's going on with this project? It's been nearly a month since they laid new floor. Very odd. It's been dead for a few days, with handful to no workers on site, at least when I passed by last week and this past Monday morning.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. They added rebar for the next floor pour a few days ago and there are several workers visible on the web cam right now. The web cam will actually need to be adjusted soon because the top of the building is starting to go outside the web cam's view.

Umm... What? They last poured a floor in the early morning hours of July 1st. Few work has been done in the last two weeks.

OK, but I said they added rebar for the next floor. I counted 19 people visible at one time on the webcam this morning. They're there... so there. ;) Don't worry... things are happening.

I count 15 workers at 10:34 a.m. and five of them are working on the forms for the core.

I see two at 3:35. It was like this (few to none) last week and Monday morning.

Didn't you hear? They decided to abandon the project.

Nah. The real challenge is counting the workers at the Thompson Arts site.

Delay related to a structural connection connecting the tower crane to the building for stability. Not sure why it has taken so long.

Ok, I took one for the team and went to look. There’s a crane at Weston Centre for some reason. There’s some netting on the garage, so maybe doing something up there?

https://i.postimg.cc/HncrLmBS/D9-A53...A6-CA0-EB7.jpg

KevinFromTexas Aug 17, 2019 4:51 PM

They're planning to two floors to the Weston garage.

This link has the building elevations and some renderings of what they're planning.

This will add 30+ feet of height to the garage with a total of 12 levels and 116 feet in height to the main roof (top level) of the garage. Plus, the elevator tower will go up another 14 feet 5 3/4 inches from what I measured. So overall, the new height of the garage will be 130 feet 9 3/4 inches tall.

They're also planning some new lighting for the top of the garage using what I'm guessing is LED lighting.

Thanks Txdev and Kevin! Now if they would just alter that sign on top the westin...:koko:

Fryguy Aug 19, 2019 1:07 AM

Thanks for the picture and update, guys. When I saw the crane pictured, not yet having read anything,my eyes popped. I thought the boutique hotel planned in that area was finally under construction. I'm not a fan of these tall garages, which, unfortunately, look taller (because they are) and more prominent (you see more of it than that of buildings). If we had taller buildings, fine, but these garages often dorf other nearby structures (i.e., buildings at 601 N. St. Mary's St.). On that note, has anyone heard anything regarding the building at 601 N. St. Mary's?

Fryguy Aug 19, 2019 1:17 AM

I didn't know they were going to change the exterior. This new exterior looks much better and more modern. I closed it before finishing to read it. Yeah, I'm lazy. Does anyone know when it is projected to finish?

TSK18 Aug 19, 2019 3:22 AM

It's an interesting change for sure, but I'm not the biggest fan of the perforated panels at the top.

How many floors are correctly constructed, and how many are planned (without skipping numbers)?

jaga185 Aug 31, 2019 9:34 PM

I'm not sure how many are constructed. But I think they have about 4-5 more floors to go.

Not sure how many floors, but I'm pretty sure it will top out at about the pool level of the Drury.

Keep-SA-Lame Sep 1, 2019 7:45 PM

This is the only hotel built downtown in years that I'm not mad about. So cool! Great pics as usual, Raul.

The Model Sep 3, 2019 2:44 PM

I counted 18 floors, including the 13th floor, and the levels on the river level.
Building doesn't look to tall from the highway, but from street level it is very impressive!

It will be as tall as the Holiday Inn Riverwalk, so it should make a good impression. Though, as I drive on I10 South, it is already making a good impression. If the 24 floors for this hotel is true, from a article a few years ago, then it should only be needing 5-6 floors, depending if they don't count 13th as a floor. It's interesting thing - the counting of the number of floors per building/tower is not as simple as going outside and counting the windows in parallel fashion (especially the building at 33 Thomas Street, the Long Lines Buildings, located in Manhattan, New York, New York). There are so many variables to the number of floors per space between window as one counts in parallel fashion. Most, for instance, would be surprised at how few floors exist at the Bank of America Tower in New York City due to its impressive height of 769 ft at roof and at 1,200 ft at spire, with only 55 floors.

Looks like they will be topping out next month. So they are close. Here is an article from the Heron that

https://saheron.com/canopy-by-hilton...ht-in-october/

In it Chris Hill (Esquire Tavern owner and building co-developer) said that we "should see the structure reach its maximum height by mid-October".

JoninATX Oct 15, 2019 3:23 PM

Look like its topped out from the webcam.

So, I had meeting downtown earlier today. I took some pics of the Canopy - not the best, but it is what it is, given one of the roads was closed today. However, I completely forgot how to post on here. Can someone remind me?
