Security. Risk. Management.

This is MUCH better than you'll find out on 1604, with a vastly superior design, plays to the local vernacular rather than just being "any city USA" and we should expect the federal government to foot the bill for a local project (e.g. the interaction with the river should and will be payed for by local governmental entities and nonprofits as part of the larger redevelopment of San Pedro Creek). Having green space around the building is actually quite nice in an urban core that is almost entirely still devoid of large public parks. Try to see the positives in things, people, rather than just focusing on the negatives (negatives that I just can't see with this project anyway).

I vastly disagree. It plays so well with San Pedro Creek and I’d have to think they designed it with that key element in mind. The water, the walk ways, the trees, etc. it also seems the land to the west of the building will be very park like in nature as well. I like it.

It is my understanding that the feds are no longer pursuing improvements to the creek and that they're leaving that to the city and county. In general, though, I do agree that this will be a courthouse in a park. I like that.

I’m not sure I understand. The San Pedro Creek improvement/revitalization was always a city/county funded project. Maybe the creek was talked with this courthouse about before the county decided to improve the entire urban stretch. But the SPC will be improved adjacent to the courthouse.

It most definitely is being built on that big block of land. The San Pedro Creek abuts that piece of land.

Definitely! This is the picturesque view they should have shown off from the very beginning. It would certainly have assuaged all the previous misgivings about how it's fortress-like architecture had been delayed, redesigned, and scaled-back.

The federal government's original plan was to pitch in for the redevelopment of the creek in that section during construction of the courthouse. IIRC, because of funding constraints they are no longer doing that.

Please tell me where you are able to go to a meeting complaining about how your FEDERAL tax dollars are spent anywhere in this country and then actually have anything changed about the way it is being spent. Local and state dollars, sure... Federal dollars are much harder to do anything about unless they're transfer down funds (I.E. being spend by the local or state government in direction of the federal government), which these aren't.

Well, that section (and phase) have funding, so it’s irrelevant now.

The landscaping next to the creek looks really nice, but I think otherwise such a huge piece of land would be better utilized with a building that houses more. What will people think about that issue in 30 years or more when downtown San Antonio looks more like downtown Austin or Houston?

No, it was a comment on (my) projection of SA's potential population in 30 or more years and the effect it will have on land value in human-use terms. Let's say the metro population is 4 million in 30 years and the trend of people moving back into the city continues... buildings will go up, not out, due to supply and demand. Land will be valuable monetarily too, and the need for courthouse space will inevitably rise. Who knows. But on the flip side, it's always nice to have some open public space in a downtown, so there is that.

They might be happy that there was green space preserved for citizens to enjoy.

But thirty years to have downtowns like those two cities? In what sense? Also, why such a long time frame? The core has greatly changed in the last five years alone. Thirty years, twenty years, ten years... who even knows.
