San Antonio skyline from Tower of Americas over the years
It would be cool to see how the San Antonio skyline has changed over the years. The only spot I can think of where lots of people have taken the exact same picture is from the Tower of the Americas. Please post yours here with the date it was taken. Hi res pictures are OK because it will make for a nice animated GIF later on. I don't have one of my own handy, but the one in the next post is from circa 2010. The older (the more rare) the better.

San Antonio forum members:
Please go up the Tower of the Americas somewhat often in the near future. Frost is already almost topped out, but there are others that are just getting started, and there may soon be more. It would be awesome to build a collective photo documentary of the changes coming to San Antonio. You can take turns where somebody different goes up every month. That way if there are 12 of you (and me whenever I visit my mom), the commitment will be light. This picture looks like it was taken in the late morning, based on where the sunlight is. Maybe lunch time or on a weekend. https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/966/41...32698539_b.jpg https://www.flickr.com/photos/krissatin/41401000784 If they all kinda match lighting-wise, they'd flow together well video or gif style. |

Unpopular opinion I'm sure... but I really miss the antenna on the Tower Life Building. On another note, the skyline is really gonna look great from this angle once the CPS Towers, Frost Tower, Canopy and Thompson are done!
edit: I got bored and decided to do some (bad lol) photoshop renderings showing what the Thompson/Frost will potentially add as well as some other potential lots that could be filled up. Honestly, I think the angle from the tower just isn't the most flattering. I10/35 interchange view makes the skyline look the most dense IMO. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/963/4...f9bde90a_b.jpgsa skyline render by alexdskates210, on Flickr |

But the point of this thread is to see what the actual San Antonio skyline has looked like and will look like over the years. Eventually I may take all the images and create an animation showing the change over time. While there may indeed be better views of the San Antonio skyline, this is the only location that guarantees that each image will be be basically the same. In order to create the aforementioned animation, each image must match up precisely so that they can be overlaid one on top of the other. So I'd like to respectfully ask that from now on if anybody posts a picture, please make it a real one. |

If you own that, you should upload that to Wikipedia!

I don't. (One of you guys in SA can take a better photo though.)
On a side note, wouldn't the grassy area be better just left alone as a nice civic park? (The correct answer is yes.) |

Feeling neglected here Jack;)
Here’s a composite of three sketches I did from the tower in 2010. I, uh, opted not to include the Grand Hyatt for some reason. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4107/...87560450_b.jpgsan antonio from the tower of americas panorama by Paul Heaston, on Flickr |

That sketch is beautiful! I would have liked the Hyatt on there though, but this is awesome:cheers: |
Been a long time since I've seen your work. Nice!

It's been a while. Anyone feel like going up in the tower and taking a bunch of pictures? I'd love to see not only this view updated, but also all the mid-rise apartment buildings going up around the fringes of downtown... HEB HQ/courthouse, Pig & Pearl, Southtown, River North, UTSA downtown campus, etc.

Few buildings use flood lights anymore. It's really kind of a thing of the past. Now it's all about accent lighting instead of lighting it up like Cape Canaveral.
