Best Historical Skyscraper in Regina
 

I've stolen this idea from the Winnipeg thread. Regina is not in the same league, but we have some beauties. I have had to lower the minimum height to 6 floors. Demolished buildings and the Legislature are not included.

I voted for the Leader Building.

I'm surprised to see the Motherwell Building... I love it, but as a postwar building it seems to fit into a different category. I mean, if you include that one, then why not SaskPower?

I also love the Sears Building... it looks like a big warehouse straight out of Chicago. It's not what I think of when I think "skyscraper", though. What is happening with it these days?

Although built in the 50's and highly renovated in the 2000's, this was designed before the war and shelved due to war austerity.

Motherwell was designed before the war I believe. I was desperate for content, so included it.

Apparently the Dilawri Auto Group or their REIT have a deal to buy it. They have some big plans to repurpose it, but who knows.

Neglect for Sears. There's been some rumours, but I fear it is destined to the same fate as Travellers in another ten years.

Northern Crown Building
Dominion Government Building, Federal Building
Balfour Apartments
Strathdee Warehouse
Canada Life Assurance Building
Sherwood Department Store

I would vote for the SaskPower Building hands down if it was in the list. It is unique to Regina.

Worth the 30 minutes of your time if you haven't watched it yet.

On this list, it is between Canada Life, Leader and Dominion. Dominion is such a treasure and really a quite unique structure with it's Art Deco style and pyramid form. A real beauty, especially up close. Canada Life is a little grander than Leader, but there is something about Leader's mid-block setting that is special. But those are three special buildings. Might be able to make a case that the Old Post Office building (Prince Edward) should be on the list as well.

Canada Life is my pick.

The extra ones on your list did not meet my criteria of 6 floors, although they are great building. Especially the Northern Crown Bank. I suppose the PoW Building is 6 if you count the clock tower.

^Yeah, that would be the historic skyscraper. The only one in Regina really.

Damn what a great building. The Broder Building (Medical and Dental Building) which is virtually impossible to find any pictures of would potentially be another one.

I sadly don't have any full on picture of that building. I'm an idiot for not having taken one that first summer I got my first camera. :(

In the mix with these two shorter ones, I am a fan of the Wheat Pool now Viterra building. Obviously I mean the original part not the high extension on the back. The restoration work done in the last couple of years is great and really, how can you not love a building with gargoyles!
