Excavation was done, and the columns were set in. They are dug around pretty low, maybe they are working on drainage? not sure. But there are medal beams down below ready to be set. Perhaps the base is going to be set soon, I'm sure its going to be more than just a trash slab. I don't think the restaraunt is going to be built too low below street level since there are no flood gates north, probably same depth as Acenar.

It sure is a big hole.

almost two months since the last comment here...

maybe we can get an update from our treasurer - miaht82, you got any news...???

miaht82 Oct 2, 2008 12:13 AM

I drive by daily and the digging is continuous. Not sure if they are going to go any deeper or if they are doing that via a "rat slab." The hole is flat and looks as if they are stopping there but does anyone think that 1 level is enough for parking? I'll take a closer look tommorrow.

walked by the site as i was downtown on business...

miaht is right - not too deep.

they look like they are still at least a week or two from being ready to erect a crane.

Great pics Kyle! I put together a model from the plans found on the HDRC document-- good idea of the scale and massing at this site:

Isn't that just a parking lot now? That'll make for great infill.

sakyle04 Nov 29, 2008 3:19 AM

^^ Exactly, Kevin. Pave paradise, put up a (high rise on a) parking lot...

On another note...

How are they making these buildings so short? That Holiday Inn has how may stories? And it is significantly taller than the Courtyard next door and eventually this Embassy Suites...

Are between-floor heights getting smaller? Am I just an idiot?

ydoc14 Nov 29, 2008 7:44 AM

I think the Holiday Inn has 24 floors, and hotel rooms generally have 8' floor to ceiling heights.

Keep-SA-Lame Nov 30, 2008 4:19 PM

Kind of weird having a crane that's not on the fringe of DT.

Complex01 Nov 30, 2008 5:29 PM

Thats kewl the crane is up. Will check it out the next time i am down there...

jaga185 Dec 1, 2008 2:38 AM

That looks fantastic, exactly what I think should go there, nothing too tall, but just right.

sakyle04 Dec 2, 2008 2:55 PM

I am excited that the view (looking west) down Houston Street will have one more block of walled-in density....

oldmanshirt Dec 2, 2008 3:39 PM

^^^ Same here. But there's still a parking lot and a bus station and a derelict eyesore in the CBD that needs to die :hell:

jaga185 May 5, 2009 7:14 AM

Coming along nicely I might say.

Hey! there's the Courtyard looking near finished. Are those pseudo-windows on the section closest to the river?

The Embassy Suite should rise pretty fast now.

sakyle04 May 5, 2009 7:27 PM

those are pseudo-windows. the building is within feet of the structure next door. so, in the name of uniformity, that whole swath was made to be faux.
