With a new Star Wars movie out, I was thinking of this fictional planet.
Does a planet with a billion hypertalls make any sense?
Could Earth look like this in a thousand years?
Would you want to live on it if it did?

I don't think coroscant is covered in supertalls all the way around, but is simply 100% urbanized. It varies in densities from hypertall areas seen in the movie to lower density areas where you can actually see the ground.

Possibly Tokyo could be considered a real Coruscant. I guess the title could also go to NYC, but Tokyo has that urban nature that sprawls continuously over a massive area. Essentially, city from horizon to horizon, and it corresponds to a planet like feel that's made of a whole continuous, sprawling city. I guess for the West, possibly Mexico City or Sao Paulo. Mexico city, like Toyko, just keeps going. Its massive.

Maybe in terms of high rises, Shanghai possibly or the Shenzhen/Hong Kong region? Although the mountains kinda take the feeling away, so maybe Shanghai with its flat nature appears to stretch deep into the horizon.

Just some observations.

I can attest that Coruscant is indeed entirely urban filled with quadrillions of spires going up in levels in the thousands.

The population of the planet is over 1 trillion with even more who commute to the planet everyday. In comparison Earth has a population of 7 billion. A trillion is basically 1000 billion and that is just those who live on the planet. The entire surface is covered in levels. Level 1 is deemed uninhabitable but some levels go as much as 5127 which are basically floors to us. It's nuts how massive that planet infrastructure really is. No oceans. No forest, all city.

I've heard there is a tiny bit of remaining parkland atop some mountains that is all that's left of the original surface.

The Star Wars mythology may be entertaining, it's yet a bit short of intelligence. Though the story of a liberal republic endangered by a totalitarian imperial system still makes sense. Otherwise, that kind of science fiction seems almost completely useless for too fanciful. And their screenplays as their dialogues are too poor. Even gravity constraints were forgotten in there. I mean it's complete fantasy to entertain kids, which is cool, but nothing more.

In the expanded universe they talk about how, even a thousand years before Episode 1, the entire planet was covered in an average of 65 levels... In episode 1 the tallest building (500 Republica) is 1,010 levels taller than anything around it

There are also entire sections of the planet dedicated to industrial use... The Works was a massive area that is abandoned to to pollution and decay

I don't think we'll ever get to that level, but who knows... from this angle Vancouver kinda looks like Coruscant

Not really. I would imagine some of the buildings produce the atmosphere and weather. Coruscant has been known to have thunderstorms which were present when Anakin was defeated by Obi-Wan in Episode 3 while he was in the healing capsule.

Buuut..Coruscant is a fictional place full of people and aliens that don't exist.

I recently thought about this, I think a plantet or city like Coruscant could only be attractive if buildings had huge artifficial green spaces inside which is never seen in any of the star wars movies. Otherwise it would be simply too boring and stressful for a non jedi person
