Bid proposals have been released today for the redevelopment of the Tom Green Water Treatment Plant and Austin Energy Electrical Substation in downtown Austin. Five companies are bidding for the project that will add hundreds of thousands of square feet of mixed use space including up to 1,000 condominiums and apartments and even a brand new downtown full purpose grocery store.
The City of Austin is expected to select a proposal in June. Construction would start in about three years since the aging water treatment facility would have to be replaced. Quote:

Updated aerial renderings showing two of the projects in the skyline.
I've also added some more information above each rendering in my first post above that was released today in the print edition of the article. Three of the proposals have a 55, 54 and 41 story tower proposed. The other two are proposing 36 floor towers for their tallest. Also, in this rendering you'll notice they also included a silhouette rendering of two other buildings to the right. The tower on the left is the 30-story ~450 foot Museum Tower. That will be a 500,000 square foot office tower. To its right is the W Austin Hotel & Residences which is under construction now and will be 478 feet tall with 37 floors.

It looks to me like Shoal Creek is also going to get a Make-over judging by that one rendering that shows the creek with 360 in the background. Just think Shoal Creek could be the more natural version of a riverwalk through downtown and Waller Creek would be the urban built up version.

Yeah, I meant to say the Museum Tower is the AMOA block. The Intel site is where the new federal courthouse is going. As for those two buildings I mentioned, you were right, at least about the residential building. I went back and looked at the diagram that Stratus had included in their presentation. The 292 foot building is a residential building. The 257 foot building is a hotel though. The 223 foot building must be the office building. That building isn't shown in the skyline rendering. Oh wow, it's Austin's version of the Hudson Yards. This city really is experiencing a historic boom.

I have hard time understanding this this boom. Despite of the current U.S. economic/financial situation, these amazing major project announcements just keep coming. And the biggest proposals announced over the past three years continue to break ground and are often even bigger than the original plans.
