I think this is such an attractive city...
Well planned as well.

Slick. Guangzhou's come a long way since the White Swan.

nice cladding i hope it will be illuminated in the same colors as the Guangzhou International Finance Center and in synchronization that would make for an impressive cluster.

it also have some nice angles that does well to remove its bulkiness and square look

By those statements, I know that you clearly have never been to Guangzhou. Although, I will admit that the city has definitely improved over the years (the subway system alone, which was completely unused in 2000, has improved the city's transportation infrastructure immensely).

Guangzhou,Pudong's layouts imo suggest that China is building on aesthetic value alone and not considering that a city scape is only made enjoyable if it is built to human scale.

Yes though i wouldnt say Greenwhich,Vesey and Liberty st are super blocks though ya i would put the streets that enclose the memorial to be very alike though on a smaller scale and yes the old WTC complex was a good example of this super block planning. Especially with the West side highway right there which created massive congestion. Though China is planning entire cities off this which is far worse.

:yes: That comment was made well before I'd come to China (been in Shanghai since February)...yes, my views have changed slightly.
But I still think they're moving in the right direction with regards to this particular area of the city.

I think we have a hold-out. There's a little four-story, hipped-roof building which is now alone and surrounded by this great cluster of tall structures. Ya gotta love it.

I'm not so crazy about the chiseled corners; maybe they will grow on me. I understand that these features mark the different uses within the tower, but the visual effect is awkward. These chamfers interrupt the eye's motion as it is led up the long vertical edges.

This district certainly is smokin' hot with development!

I actually like the chiseled corners. I think they add a bit of interest and make it a bit more distinctive. And yes, the hipped roof building does look pretty hilarious surrounded by all of the massive structures.:D
