Regina - Of Interest

Critical Mass for Regina

2008 July 25, 17:30, Victoria Park.

Apparently, this has been organised in Regina for almost a year. First I read of it was last night on a pamphlet on a bicycle I walked past.

Ah, wish I was there. Hopefully there'll be a good turnout and everyone will follow traffic rules and it won't degenerate into a big law-breaking mess that will do city cycling more harm than good.

Last time I was in Regina with my bike a bunch of us (well, 3) had a Midnight Mass one random night/morning. Wish I had a camera - silently cruising around deserted city streets, it's a side of Regina you never see. I recommend it, just make sure you have proper lights and everything. And South Albert seems to become a raceway around then, so stick to the service roads.

It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I did 3/4 of the circuit (Victoria, Saskatchewan Drive, Broad Street, College Avenue; clockwise) as I was late for dinner. About 50 people out; a youngish, but good cross section of people. We only took one lane and we stopped at lights, even if it broke the group up. Only heard one person in a car yell "get on the f***ing side walk!!!". Got to talk some nerd bike talk, too. I'll likely participate next month.

Property Assessment Inspections

I was wondering what other subdivisions in Regina were served notice that City employees will be doing "inspections" that "focus on the physical characteristics of your home and property." I know that homes in Parliament Place and South Lakeview will apparently be inspected. The neighbourhood is mostly convinced this is the City's scheme to raise property taxes to pay for the garbage that will be Harbour Landing.
