A pretty interesting design and a welcome sign of progress in an otherwise stagnant skyline!

franktko Sep 7, 2013 2:06 AM

Great project for Winnipeg! But I'm not sure about covering up all this surface creating these big blind areas... How about some light for these poor residents!!

LMich Sep 7, 2013 2:24 AM

I don't think natural light will be a problem, at all. The blank walls won't be the best to look at from the outside, but these residents and workers are going to get more than enough natural light. This will be an iconic for an otherwise (and mostly) boring skyline. It's just what Winnipeg needs.

Good on Peg!! I do hope they alter the materials a little bit though!

Big Sky Sep 9, 2013 5:18 PM

I like it. This is what Winnipeg's skyline sorely needs; something tall and interesting.

Is the height of 170m a guess or confirmed actual?

Coldrsx Sep 9, 2013 5:36 PM

Still not sure what to think, I think I like it, but the roof and blank walls seem to make me second guess it and overall it seems a little awkward.

That said, generally I like the 22nd century look of it and good on the Peg.

franktko Sep 9, 2013 7:08 PM

Imagine if they would replace that white material of the walls with, let's say black glass, a bit like Shanghai Tower is doing (glass-over-glass). It would then look absolutely amazing.

Rico Rommheim Sep 9, 2013 7:23 PM

I for one enjoy the blank walls on this one. It gives it an edge.

KevinFromTexas Sep 9, 2013 7:32 PM

Ooh, I like it. It's like a modernized version of the Citicorp Center in New York.

They should put some solar panels on the angled roof staggered in a way to carry on the design of the windows.

JayPro Sep 9, 2013 7:41 PM

Where is this in relation to WPG's rather spread out skyline?

DancingDuck Sep 9, 2013 8:02 PM

It'll be right in between where it says "Donald St" and "Smith St"
Basically in the middle of the skyline

the developers mentioned that it would be the total "height" of a 55 floor building, so at an average of 10 feet per floor you get 550 feet/168 meters

Design-mind Sep 9, 2013 9:18 PM

This is very unique. I hope this goes through as it would be nice to see an addition to the Winnipeg skyline.

ltsmotorsport Sep 10, 2013 5:29 AM

Interesting design and certainly unique. Like Kevin said, reminds me of a newer-edition Citicorp tower.

The height of a 55 floor building is different for office, condo and mixed-use.
The developers over hyping this... you think?
Just State the height Mr.Developer.
Aura in Toronto is 78 floors, but it will be almost 900ft.
The new Brookfield tower in Calgary is 56 floors but will be over 800ft.
Living Shangri-La in Vancouver is 66 Floors and is 646 ft.
432 Park in New York is 88 floors, but will be 1400ft!
it goes on...

BTW; waited for something this height in Winnipeg since I was a kid...a long time ago. :)
Great to see something taller than that mess of of 30 floor boxes on the corner of Portage and Main!

Therefore the height indicated is a so called "guestimate" .

I like the blank panels with the erratic curtainwall patterns on the two sides. What would be even better is if both sides had a different curtainwall patterns.

Well yes , and that's why it's all being low-balled.
Ten feet per floor is pretty low , even for residential.

KevinFromTexas Sep 11, 2013 10:05 PM

Will it be condo or apartment space? Condo floor-to-floor heights average 12 to 14 feet usually.

And I'm guessing it won't have any above ground parking judging from the rendering. Parking levels which end up being counted toward the tower's overall floor count usually have very low floor-to-floor heights, sometimes only 8 feet.
