Regina Civic Election, 2016
What's shaking in the election world? It's been pretty silent, and so far there are just 2 candidates running for Mayor:
Michael Fougere - the incumbent, of which you can expect more of the same & Tony Fiacco - Pat Fiacco's older brother, who has been quiet about his platform so far As far as Councillors go, it appears as though it's all incumbents with the exception of: Ward 3 - Shawn Fraser not seeking re-election and Tamara Knight aiming for his spot & Ward 4 - Asfaw Debia looking to unseat Bryon Burnett Forgive me if I am missing anything. |
I just want pro urban candidates in and for us to finally take transit seriously.

Tamara Knight is a joke and should not be even running never mind being considered as a vote! |
City has taken the election website live, but as of yet, the candidates are not listed.
http://www.electionsregina.ca/ I really hope we get a credible candidate to run for mayor. I'm also really hoping Burnett gets pitched out because he only becomes visible in print media (but not otherwise) around election time. |

Pretty much. He doesn't respond to emails at all. I was honestly surprised when I heard he attended the meeting about the potential Islamic prayer hall in his ward. (Rezoning is needed and there's some real opposition, but council is going to let it slide even though the location is a really poor one.)

I say vote Fiacco just cuz'. Fougere is ridiculous, if you watch him at council meetings it's clear he has no idea what is going on.
|
Jim Elliot has tossed his name into the ring for mayor but he's got zero credibility and runs every election.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CrDxu0vUsAAT8QU.jpg Terry Hincks has also announced he will run again in Ward 9. Wade Murray (Ward 6) is supposed to make an announcement today. |
After 13 years, Wade Murray is not seeking re-election in Ward 6.
Instead he is throwing his support behind his son Joel Murray for Ward 6. |

According to the CBC, Evangeline Godron is running for mayor. Never heard a word about there being another name for mayor. Usually that spot gets all the attention.

Where is Novak?

Rumour is he is running for council but haven't heard which ward. He's not going for mayor though.

Nomination papers are due by 4pm today. I don't remember previous elections having so many candidates, but I think it's good. Maybe we will get some diversity on council.
