Love the design, although this should probably be moved to the "proposals" section.

Nice. I counted either 33 or 34 floors. I wonder if this proposal has anything to do with Austin planning 2 new convention hotels. It's good to see some healthy competition between the cities. It'll end up being good for their downtowns to get into a sort of race to attract convention business.
And of course it's always good when another parking lot goes away. This will also help stretch the skyline closer to US 59. |
Oh wow, very nice!
|
This looks like a very nice tower. The crown looks to be an afterthought though.

I read 1000 feet before I read 1000 rooms and got really excited :(
Still a cool building though |

This hotel is MUCH needed. Hopefully we get an Omni or Westin branded hotel to anchor the North side of Discovery Green.
Last week, the Starbucks Convention was in town with over 12,000 attendees. Downtown was totally booked. Other folks had to stay in the Galleria area, Med Center, and Reliant Park. Having another 1,000 rooms downtown will make people's experience so much better. |
We are dying for one like this in Pittsburgh. let me tell you from recent experience, you will miss out on lots of larger conventions if there isn't an "anchor" hotel for the convention center. Usually around 1,000 is the right number to accomodate without having to many empty hotel rooms the rest of the time.

The Chronicle recently had a pretty good piece on the Developer, it's principal people and the hotel in the process. Looks like a 2014-2016 timeline for construction...

Looking fantastic. Good to see another parking lot bite the dust...

Another rendering of the proposal, taken from the executive summary for the nearby block that recently went up for sale.

That rendering is out-of-this-world cool.

That is a sweet building. It looks tall too. I'm thinking ~500 feet with that crown.

That close to the convention center, all we'd need to know is the height of the convention center.
