Penthouse Pyramid: Seattle’s Tower-Top Mystery Apartment

A series of fought-for conversions, happy accidents and perfect timings led to this amazing two-story apartment that occupies the pyramidal pinnacle of Seattle’s Smith Tower, once the tallest building on the West Coast of the United States (yet one encircled with much misinformation about who lives at its top and why).

Shack-Crazed Builder Constructs Fantastic Recycled Shelters

Shacks occupy a strange place in society. On the one hand, outdated and dilapidated dwellings come to mind. On the other hand, such otherwise-sad shanty structures conjure visions of peace, quiet and personal freedom and lived-in comfort as well.

@amor de cosmos - Thanks for showing me that beautiful website ( http://freshome.com/ ). Since I've found it I've spent around 2 hours browsing it. Lots of inspiration.

After browsing on the internet, I found some very nice houses. I ought to post them.

I guess this style could be updated using a shipping container(s), & IKEA. It could probably be even cheaper:

Shotgun Style: Historic Small-Plan Homes Have No Hallways

So-called ‘shotgun houses’ are said to be called such thanks to their straight nature, referencing not the long barrel, however, but the ability of shells to shoot through from front to back. In a tradition of Southern space-saving simplicity, this reinvigorated historic style skips halls to create a cozy series of rooms on thin little lots. (Above images by Mario Tama & Michael Eastman)

seems a bit small for a family but they seem to make it work:

If I could choose any house I've every seen to live in, it would be Vaux le Vicomte in France. Saw it on a school trip 21 years ago, still remember it vividly:

^Absolutely gorgeous, thanks for sharing! Tall houses with a small footprint are a great idea for urban single family neighbourhoods, but this one is even more special for being out in the country.

C3 Chicago Prefab is a Cost-Effective and Sustainable Urban Housing Solution
by Bridgette Meinhold, 09/30/11

The home has already achieved Energy Star certification and expects to receive Chicago Green Homes and LEED Platinum certification later this year. In terms of energy, the home uses 54% less energy and produces 64% less emissions then a comparable home, and creates its own hot water with a solar system on the roof. Energy efficient LED lighting, daylighting, natural ventilation, a ductless mini split HVAC and a heat recovery ventilator minimize energy use. Low VOC finishes, FSC certified wood, recycled and reclaimed materials, like wood and exterior siding work to minimize the building’s footprint.

Why would the bedroom be right in the middle? The kitchen should be in the middle and the bedroom at the very end.

Fascinating Loft Occupying an Old Flour Mill in Denver

Occupying one of the most amazing reinvented buildings in Denver, Colorado, the Flour Mill Lofts display a collection of residential spaces that maintain the charm of the old building and enhance it with the power of contemporary interior design. The Pride of the Rockies Flour Mill building was transformed into an exquisite residential building and later a newer building containing 30 luxury lofts was built next to the old one. The old flour mill built in 1920 was abandoned until 1998, when it was restored and converted into 17 lofts.
