^ Finished Libeskind residential towers? I don't think so... If there has been, not that many. So this is a new chapter for Studio Libeskind:)

urban_encounter Nov 1, 2005 5:46 AM

I believe the towers for Sacramento and Saint Louis will be among his first, though he stated he wasn't out of the WTC game yet.

There's also that one in Covington, KY across the river from Cincy.

Construction Guy Nov 1, 2005 7:45 AM

But the one in Covington KY has not been built yet either. I was just curious to see if he has ever designed a project like this in the past that has actually been built. I have heard in the industry that often times designs by celebrity architects are extremely difficult to construct. The process of going from a beautiful work of art on paper to an actual structure in the air can be a real challenge and can blow a developer's budget. Since all of these residential projects (or any other private project not using public funds) have to pencil out economically I wanted to know whether he has a track record in this area or not. Apparently not.

^ Something tells me Aura will be first. Something tells me IT WILL BE BUILT !!!

tuy Nov 1, 2005 4:03 PM

With Aura being approved and groundbreaking immenent, I would say that you are correct.

bennywah Nov 1, 2005 8:01 PM

Aura construction

I agree too, since taylor and nassi have agreements on the development of lot a, and the work already started for prepping of 621, Aura might be started and completed before the towers, and financing for Aura seems to be in place, will be interesting to see how it all pans out.

The Taylor Made Wedge

:uhh: We're all expecting eminent construction site prep on the parking lot better known as lot A Right? ...But what about the latest project info handed out regarding 621..Yall know...the stuff that was handed out the night Aura was approved. Any new info on whether 621 is 29 stories now??? if so, that would not seem to bode well for a quick start. My guess is the handout was produced by the Bee... & we all know how acurate they are about project profiles. If it is inacurate, as I suspect, then I think we'll see more asphalt hauled out, & more fencing going up by next month.

Here’s another model down at the AURA office.

8th Floor
On the left, movie theater, work out gym

On the Right, separate saunas for men and women and
several guests rooms for visitors so they don't have to get a hotel room.
Beyond the bottom of the picture are condos

Just to let everyone know who isn't familiar with this project... it is 39 stories now with an extra 10'.

Construction Guy Nov 17, 2005 8:28 AM

Apparently the project designed by Libeskind in Covington KY broke ground yesterday.

GrowinUp Nov 18, 2005 4:05 PM

^ Ya, I'd like to follow that one -- see how it all goes down.

:hilarious So that's who "the man" is!!

Seriously though, it looks like they're getting close to staring construction. That's great news.

What a sorry excuse of architecture. This looks like something some marketing people whipped up, not an (exalted) architect. Put some curved cuts that serve no function into the facade of an otherwise-typical box and call it a day. Yes it's better than a typical box, but I wish Libeskind would've put juuuust a little more effort into integrating his swoops and angles and all that bullshit into the mass. But rather, he produces this dumb design. Sigh, I guess it's better than nothing.

These will get tagged within a week.

fflint Nov 19, 2005 7:57 AM

^Well, they wouldn't have to get tagged if you could just control yourself for once, urban encounter!

ltsmotorsport Nov 19, 2005 11:35 PM

:haha: "The Notorious Tagger of Central Sacramento"

GrowinUp Nov 20, 2005 4:11 PM

^ So THAT'S who's been doing all that !

cascraperdude Nov 20, 2005 8:00 PM
