The Dillard's in the Old Joske's is closing but for a good reason!




This is great news as this gives Ashkenazy much more room to play with in the redevelopment of Rivercenter Mall.

The "highrise luxury hotel" is the ritz, right?

They need to get rid of that nasty awning

When it was first announced, Ashkenazy was saying they wanted either Four Seasons or Ritz.

But since then Eilan was announced on the far north side and I know Ritz and Four Seasons are both trying to land the Hotel there.

So who knows what's happening now. But I do know Ashkenavy is going to go very high end and upscale at Rivercenter Mall. This purchase of Dillard's and the abandoned space above it is just one more sign of that.

If it was a Ritz downtown at the river center, that would be, well, ritzy. :)

They're so nice inside. The lobby in the Portland Ace is really amazing. They used an old door for a table and threw in a nice (not-so-)cheap coffee shop in there. $8 latte + gigantic table and talking to strangers? Perfect.

No, I mean, they seem to be small. It's a small boutique hotel, that wouldn't fit with Ashkenazy's plans for a high rise.

From the sounds of it, they may be wanting to go the boutique route with everything in the redevel. I think the Ace brand lends itself to a high rise hotel/resi mix perfectly, especially given the concept lobby in Portland's success

Actually I was thinking of something else when I wrote hotel/residential.

An Ace could work but I think as a renovation of a building downtown, Houston Street being the best spot.

i stayed in one of the four suites at the seattle ace on my honeymoon a few years ago. it was awesome. :slob:

the beauty of the ace is that you only need room for 20-50 rooms. more than that would kill the charm anyway. so, stick your fogo de chao and high end retail in on the ground floor and give the ace the upper floors.

either way, great news that the project is moving forward. progress is progress. i cannot wait for phase two.

Aloft is going in almost across the street from the W proposed site.

Indigo is going on Houston.

An Embassy Suites is going up on Houston Street.

Element (hotel) as well.

Houston Street is shaping up nicely.

The one in Portland has so much emphasis on art in each of the rooms-- it floors me how flat-out awesome the rooms are without being over-the-top.

Not really. Andres Andujar at 3D/I and the man who gave birth to River North, is a poster here (he hasn't posted in a while) and he is/was working on that project. This was about a year ago when he revealed W was in negotiations. It'd be great to hear from him ago.

And yes, for anyone wondering, it was really him as I've met him and he's talked about how he likes posting here but just never has the time and just forgets.
