Interesting that they use "prefabricated rooms" made in Quebec.

roccerfeller Feb 19, 2012 8:26 AM

Either way I can't wait to see this come together. I'm just thrilled that they are going to integrate the Mitchell Copp facade into their design.

This is a sick project. Incorporating historic facades into modern architecture is awesome. Hopefully they make that section of the building a cool restaurant or a grand lobby for the hotel, something that people will see. Either way, glad this project is going through, so proud of Winnipeg. Now all we gotta do is get these buggers working on Heritage Landing and the CC expansion!

So does the demolition of the sidewalk flowerpots mean we should be seeing building demolition and excavation relatively soon?

word is heritage will be starting may 5, not sure how accurate that is currently but it seems sound to me

they want ATL to really be underway in March, so you will see this thread updated more frequently at that time

I also believe the facade will end up being the "main" entrance, with the corner side hosting a restaurant.

Not sure about that though, but that's my guess.

How much of that block will be demolished? On the Donald side, the MTS Exhibition site and Wild Planet are going .... but not the small government bldg next to it? I think those workers are still in there. If demo only goes as far down Donald as WP, it doesn't seem like enough space for what's planned.

those facades are truly eyesores, but it looks like they are brick buildings? how old are they?

Andy6 Feb 23, 2012 2:45 AM

They are all around 100 years old, I believe. The Norlyn Building was one of the buildings that was damaged in the Time Building fire in 1954. It used to be taller. The MTS Exhibition Centre, which is really the Clarendon Hotel, was built around 1920, replacing the first and much bigger Clarendon Hotel that was built in the early 1880s. I don't know anything about the Wild Planet building.
