Mutton or beef, never pork. We got it with the immigrants from the Middle East, not much into pork down there. I prefer beef and mutton over pork anyway, so works out great for me. Only pork I really like is bacon. mmm... bacon

So are those slices of pork in there? Or is it beef?

At my local Kurdish joint I usually go for either lamb or beef.. but chicken is great too..

As Swede mentioned pork isn't exactly popular with the middle eastern people, but they do serve it if one asks for it ( plus it's the main ingediant of about half the pizzas they offer )

Anyway it's basicly a pita, just with differnt meat and usually a more sour dressing..

Either way, kebabs look like they're pretty messy when you try to eat them--messier than a slice of Pizza at any rate.

They can be, but you usually get them wrapped in paper, so it's kinda like eating a burger in paper, some times you are lucky and other times it end up looking like the stuff babys drool out :)

But then it sounds like some of you folks have had plenty of practice in chowing down a kebab gracefully.

Middle Eastern joints have pretty much killed all other opposition here in Denmark, we used to have Chinese Grills everywhere, but now it's pizza and Shawarma/kebab joints.. it's also much healthier than other fast food and certainly tastes better if you ask me, it's also made of fresh stuff instead of the defrosted crap you get a MickyD's & Co..

They're appearing here in Canada more and more but there's plenty of room for every kind of fast food place without it impinging on any other, but then again given that there's a diverse population could have something to do with it.

One time I actually found a Canadian fast food place for the first time, that had bison and moose burgers, and their specialty coyote cheesesteak!

FREKI Jul 7, 2008 11:00 PM

Coyote... isn't that basicly a wild dog?

That's right.

Well I guess there is now something to talk about........the Russian Georgian conflict....... causes.....responses and potential outcome. Any thoughts?
Did the Georgian government have the right to go after a province inside its territory? Is this the beginning of Russia trying to rebuild its empire? Does the U.S have any high ground to stand on considering its actions over the last few years? Are the European powers reacting forcefully enough or is the threat of a cut in energy from Russia preventing them from taking any action? Is Putin's behavior any different from the "old" Russia? Lots of possibilities to discuss here.

There's already a thread on that in the Current Events section. Considering the topic's nature I'm ruling that that's where that discussion belongs and not in here.

But now a topic that's sure to get people talking...
When eating a kebab, what is your preferred drink? a beer? coke? water?

testdrive Aug 14, 2008 9:27 AM

Sorry, I figured the term general discussion meant just that. Could you give me the link for the current events thread as I looked and could not locate it since this topic can't compete here with eating kebab.

Bergenser Aug 14, 2008 4:23 PM

Well I usually take Coke to Kebab since it's pretty cheap in the area where I usually eat Kebab.(close to school)

Coke NOK 10 ~ €1,2491 :D
Roll Kebab NOK 30 ~ €3,7472 :D
that's under €5 in total.

Maybe that's not cheap for some of our other european forumers, but by
norwegian standards that's just about as cheap as it gets.

SHiRO Aug 14, 2008 7:59 PM

FREKI Aug 14, 2008 8:09 PM

Thanks! :haha: You make it sound like I'm not missing all that much because of the absence of kebab joints in my part of the world.

Oh you are - kebab is awesome! :)

I'll take it over burgers ANY day!

CHapp Aug 14, 2008 10:37 PM

Well I know Dansk food is quite tasty! So maybe that means the same is true for Dansk kebab?

FREKI Aug 15, 2008 6:04 AM

^Danish food is horrible... ( with the exception of a few things ) - I by far prefere mediterranian by far! ( except Greek! ) :)

CHapp Aug 15, 2008 9:39 AM

O dear! Things must have gone downhill in gammel Danmark then. :(

Bergenser Aug 15, 2008 2:59 PM

Well, IMO danish burgers are quite tasty.
I dunno about danish kebabs, but guess they're quite tasty as well.

Danish food is based on medival farmers food and strange fish like the herring and eel, pretty much all the farmer couldn't sell - that is not me!

I do like stuff like Frikadeller and Pork roast, but that is hardy uniquely Danish and not typical either...

Pizza, Pasta, Kebab, Shawarma, Lasagne, Falafel however... mmmmmm :)
