LINCOLN | State Capitol | 400 FT / 121 M | 15 FLOORS | 1932

I have to say that I have a bit of a crush on this building. I was lucky enough to attend a wedding last summer in Lincoln and of course made a pilgrimage to see what I consider a masterwork of pre-war American architecture.

The Nebraska State Capitol, designed by Bertram Goodhue, isn't quite the tallest, but it is by far my favorite of our 50 state houses.

Wikipedia give a pretty good history here and I don't have much to add to it.

The building is absolutely gorgeous in person and I highly recommend anyone who happens to be in the area to make a trip.

Some photos I took (actually alot of photos):

This building blows me away. Insane.

That thing looks like some kind of temple. Heavy as hell. It can't help but be awe inspiring.

Living in a capital city, I'm always interested in how the state houses look on the inside and how they interact with their surroundings. In contrast to Nebraska's state house, the capitol hear in Michigan has a really airy, "rising" feeling in the rotunda and legislative chambers.

This state capitol is one of the better ones out there; it and Louisiana's are my favorites.

thanks for the tour of a sublime structure.

I love this building. Spent 5 years in Lincoln for college. The exterior was pretty dingy when I was there, they spent about 2 years cleaning it just as I left town. Looks like they cleaned it up nicely.

Great photos, plinko.

The library in DT LA was also designed by Goodhue. Another masterpiece.

Come to think of it, the University of Montreal's main pavilion looks like a close relative:

I had the same impression. In your link, they also mention the similarity and add a link to the Nebraska Capitol site!
