This city is retarded. They will take that much effort to preserve the façade of a decrepit little old building above but meanwhile will not think twice pulling down much bigger and more beautiful buildings elsewhere.

Like looking the other way at Bancroft a few years ago and now with 316 Fifth. It's ridiculous. These people need their heads examined.

^ There are too many examples over the years to count.
One only have to go up this very street just a few blocks for another heatbreaking example. Remember this one: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...7&postcount=11 Protecting and landmarking crap buildings while tearing down beautiful ones. It is so crazy, if you didn't see or read about it for yourself you wouldn't believe it could happen. |
5th Avenue tends to have a lot of treasures, and some are not landmarked. See 316 Fifth Avenue as an example. Demo will commence, and in its place, a 40 floor tower. Probably won't match or exceed the quality that its replacing.
In the case of beautiful architecture being demo'd, so long as what its replacing exceeds the aesthetics, it's not a big loss, but when you have something removed for crap, then it's real loss. But the way it works is that if it's not landmark, it's bound to see the wrecking ball. |

Sorry, meant this for another thread.
Edit: Was for the other Trinity project. "68-74 Trinity Place" |

Saving that facade?!?!?!? WTF. Considering how many beautiful buildings are just demo'ed without any regard...I'm baffled why anyone would decide to save that POS.
