It looks like 14 or 15 stories and will also be built on a 50 foot hill.

Was there an article with this? 14 looks right, but it's hard to tell with the trees.

Here's the article from the SA Express. It didn't have rendering in the article though:

Tesoro Corp. broke ground Friday on its new corporate headquarters as part of a plan to consolidate its offices in a structure that allows for future growth.

The new headquarters building will be at the intersection of U.S. 281 North and Redland Road, north of Loop 1604.

Tesoro, a major refiner, is expected to move to its new campus in the summer of 2009. The 618,000-square-foot headquarters will include a conference and training center, a cafeteria, a trading floor, a fitness center and an employee clinic. There will be parking for more than 2,300 vehicles.

Its fine its not like it would make another peak in the skyline...coming in only in the 14 story range.

adtobias Sep 23, 2007 8:02 PM

but it would add much needed density and more jobs d/t whcich means more homes more shops and more condos more restaurants. and more life into d/t

alexjon Sep 23, 2007 8:10 PM

That would destroy the tourism industry in downtown, according to city council

adtobias Sep 23, 2007 8:22 PM

I don't know how. look at other major citys with large population living d/t and they have a thriving tourism. if anything it helps tourism.

Hope it's mostly glass...

I was expecting to see some tall new tower in Downtown SA, but found out that this 14-story highrise would be built away from the core. It has a nice design though.

looks highly boring

KevinFromTexas Sep 25, 2007 1:16 AM

I wish it was planned for downtown. 618,000 square feet? That would be a ~600 foot building. Frost Bank Tower in Austin is 515 feet tall and has 545,000 square feet.

I looked up the location, it's 13.54 miles north of downtown San Antonio. In Austin that would put it right on our city limits. About 3 to 4 miles more and it would be in Round Rock, Texas, which is our biggest suburb, located in another county north of us.

The design is good, the hint of a healthy office market is good, but the location is bad and the height could be better, (at least from a skyscraper geek's perspective. :D)

texboy Sep 25, 2007 4:20 AM

The location is pretty bad considering its not in or near downtown which draws away from the office market there, but you can't deny the area's growth probably played a significant role in site selection here. Im sure alot of Tesoro employees and higher ups live in the Stone Oak area, making it a quicker and more convenient commute to work.

21bl0wed Sep 25, 2007 7:10 AM

This basically forces anyone who wants to work there to live in the stone oak area which blows.

adtobias Sep 25, 2007 1:47 PM

more traffic in that area...that's great
