Canada's most romantic cities list really had me wondering - what, no Quebec City? Winnipeg #2 and Lethbridge #5, no offence to either of those fine cities intended. Then I read the criteria:

OK, now this makes sense. In fact, I surprised to see Victoria on the list. Based on how they compiled the list, I would have expected it to be dominated by frozen prairie burgs where winter activitiy is most commonly reading a book at home while listening to some crooning...

Saskatoon among the top at #6? Really?

Certainly. It qualifies as a frozen prairie burg.:)

The Red River Co-op cheques are in the mail!

This morning, the local petroleum company announced record numbers for the 2013 period, with sales topping $571-million and a net profit of over $69-million. Those lofty totals represent the greatest sales totals in the Winnipeg-based petroleum cooperative’s 76-year history.

Cheques in the Mail. Ahh, Petroleum companies giving,rather than taking away. Hope It's a decent payout this year.

Money for 'major' infrastructure projects in budget, Flaherty says

OTTAWA - Finance Minister Jim Flaherty says his upcoming budget will contain money for "major" infrastructure projects.
Flaherty told CTV's Question Period that infrastructure is a good investment, but the government must be prudent at the same time.
He says any spending on infrastructure must get the approval of the federal auditor general.
Flaherty also says it's important that any federal infrastructure spending doesn't fall prey to corruption, as it has in some parts of the country — a thinly veiled reference to Quebec's construction scandals.
An ongoing public inquiry in Quebec has heard stunning testimony about illegal political financing, corruption of officials and Mafia and biker ties in the province's construction sector.
The finance minister is set to release his budget on Tuesday.

Does anybody know if the budget will carry specifics on what projects will be funded?

I enjoyed them as well. I like the perspective of kids, It's refreshing to get an opinion from the young ones sometimes, it really opens your eyes to things that adults take for granted or have lost along the way. To the point, no hidden agenda.

Saw an advert for CMHR in Calgary today. Kinda neat. Was on a pretty busy roadway too, both sides.

Wasn't able to read anything though since the ad changed both times as I drove by (it was one of those transforming/changing signs) but I could easily make out the building.

Winnipeg woman told she owes $18K in unpaid property taxes she thought she paid

WINNIPEG - A Winnipeg woman has been told by the city she owes 10 years worth of unpaid taxes — taxes she says she thought she had paid.

Kathleen Carpenter is facing an $18,000 bill dating back to 2003.

A clerical error meant another person was charged Carpenter’s property taxes on top of their own.

Carpenter has five years to pay the outstanding bill, but isn't sure how she can come up with an extra $300 a month on top of her regular payments.
She was laid off in November and has not found work.

The city says it can’t comment on specific cases, but adds it’s rare for unpaid taxes to go unnoticed.

"We’re down and we don’t know what to do about it. It’s going to be tough because they want us to start paying right away," Carpenter said.

How could someone not know that they haven't been paying their taxes?

On the flip side, what about the person would over paid $18,000 in taxes?! How could you not know you were paying an extra $1,800 a year?! That's a nice refund they'll be getting!
